History: Christman's Meat Market opened at its current location in August of 1978. A long time dream of both Shorty and Dave (father and son) to own their own meat market finally came true.
Shorty is a graduate of Oley Valley High School Class of 1947 and has worked in the meat business since the age of 12 when he helped his Uncle John Delong at John & Edna's Butcher Shop and Grocery Store on Main St. in Oley. He then ran a butcher route door to door selling meats. When the supermarket age came, he worked for several different markets as a cutter and meat manager until opening a freezer beef shop just a few blocks down from Uncle John's Butcher Shop where he got his start.
Dave is a 1972 graduate of Oley Valley High School. Being born into the business, he helped on the butcher truck as soon as he could walk. Like his dad he worked in a lot of supermarkets and several other markets. While managing the deli department for a large supermarket chain, Dave put the push on his dad to open their own store. In 1978 they built and opened Christman's Meat Market where it stands today. |
